Second Prize in a restricted competition. The proposal envisions the comprehensive rehabilitation of the historic Cal Metge building and its extension as a new social and cultural facility, establishing a respectful dialogue between heritage, contemporary architecture, and public space. The project restores and enhances the original elements of the existing structure while introducing a new construction that is clearly differentiated yet volumetrically and materially integrated with the ensemble.
The extension is arranged in an L-shaped configuration along the perimeter of the site, creating a large central courtyard connected to the new square on Passeig de Sant Antoni. This outdoor space acts as the project’s organizing element and as a place for gathering and community activity.
The proposal prioritizes functional flexibility and spatial versatility, with open-plan spaces designed to adapt to different uses. From a constructive perspective, the project relies on sustainable systems based on laminated timber structures, natural materials, and passive energy-efficiency strategies.
